Cal Poly, S.L.O. – Alex Spanos Football/Soccer Stadium Rodeo to Football – only 2 weeks Recovery Time
Challenges
Cal Poly’s Rodeo Team hosted an NIRA Rodeo on April 7-8, 2017, in the Alex Spanos Football/Soccer Stadium. A liner was installed over the turf, plywood covered the area, and 200 tons of dirt were placed on top. There was great concern about having damage from the compaction during a 2 day Rodeo event, and managing turf recovery quickly enough to support Soccer and Football events scheduled for 4/27 and 4/29.
Solution
On 4/10/17 Aqua Cents Water Management arrived to help out, and completed an Aqua Cents injection process – delivering hydrogel, along with a seaweed extract fertilizer, in a 2 day installation.
Results
Cal Poly was able to host Soccer and Football events, just 13 days after the NIRA Rodeo, on healthy green turf able to hold water beneath the root zone while providing a dry playing surface for events.
Key Benefits
Maintain water availability to root zones while keeping lawns dry enough for athletic events.
Support landscape goals for low water, durability, and hard use in recreation venues
“…Our grass transformed from yellow to green within 2 weeks. On 4/27/17 our women’s soccer team had a game on the field, followed by a football event two days later, along with a men’s soccer game. Our field looks great and I’m sure that Aqua Cents® played a major role in such a speedy recovery for our turf.”
