CSU San Marcos Adds Sustainable Water Savings Technology to 3.0 Acres on Campus Venues
Challenges
Sustainability at CSU San Marcos is a campus-wide effort where the Campus is constantly looking to find innovative sustainable practices. Aqua CentsĀ® was utilized to save up to 50% water use on the Forum Plaza, a student gathering spot and venue for high traffic events, and on the Craven Lawn which is an entrance venue for the Campus. The Campus was completing renovation work on both sites and utilized Aqua CentsĀ® water savings capabilities to support moisture at the root zone of turf while reducing overall irrigation and water use. At the Forum Plaza, where high traffic events are often hosted, the ability to keep the root zone of turf moist, while keeping the surface area relatively dry for event audiences, provided a perfect solution.
Solution
Utilizing Aqua CentsĀ® CSU San Marcos has been able to reduce water use while maintaining healthy turf for student gathering and high traffic events.
Results
Utilizing Aqua CentsĀ® CSU San Marcos reports to saving as much as 50% on water use
Key Benefits
Reduce irrigation 35%-50% on the Craven Lawn and Forum Plaza Campus venues
Maintain water availability to root zones while keeping a dryer surface area for student gatherings and events
Creation of an environment for student interaction and relaxation while reducing water use
“As we looked for sustainable solutions to reduce water use and maintain turf at student gathering spaces and focus areas on Campus, we utilized Aqua CentsĀ® to accomplish both. We were particularly challenged, as some of our lawn areas were in need of renovation. We found that Aqua CentsĀ® ability to absorb-and-release moisture directly to the root zones was beneficial during post-renovation recovery, and in getting water to the turf while still keeping the surface area relatively dry during high traffic events on the Forum Plaza.”
